Aesthetic Clinic of the Year

This category is for any clinic in Ireland that opened before the end of October 2019 and offers invasive and/or non-invasive aesthetic treatments can enter this category. These may include (but are not limited to) botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, peels, radio frequency, laser treatments, body contouring, minor cosmetic surgery and cosmeceutical-based skincare. The clinic must have a medical practitioner (i.e doctor, nurse or dentist) working on site.

Make-up Artist of the Year

This category is for any make-up artist providing full make-up services who has been working in a salon or spa or as a freelance or mobile make-up artist since at least the end of 2019.

This category is for any salon in Ireland that opened before the end of October 2019 and advertises itself as doing mainly or exclusively nails or hand and foot services.

Nail Technician of the Year

The category is open to any nail technician or therapist who performs nail treatments, who has been working in a salon or spa or as a mobile tech or therapist since at least the end of 2019. Home-based techs are eligible to enter.

Salon of the Year

This category is open to any beauty salon that opened before the end of October 2019.


To enter this category, you must not have any heat or water facilities such as saunas and pools (salons with steam, heat and water facilities should enter the Spa of the Year category).

The team is the backbone of any salon or spa business – this category celebrates teams of three or more, encompassing all relevant employees from reception and front of house to therapist and manager.

Spa of the Year

This category recognises exceptional spas that opened before the end of October 2019.


To enter this category, the spa must offer water and/or steam facilities (e.g. pool, hot tubs, steam room, sauna).

Therapist of the Year

This category is for any beauty therapist who has been working in a salon, spa, clinic or as a mobile therapist since at least the end of 2019. Therapists who work from their own homes are eligible to enter.


Finalists in this category will be required to attend an interview at a venue in Dublin. These will be held on Monday 28th September 2020.

Artistic Team of the Year

WHO CAN ENTER?

  • A minimum of three people constitutes a team.
  • Each member of the team must be a qualified hairdresser and all must have worked together for the same salon, salon chain or recognised hairdressing body during the past 12 months


If you are shortlisted in this category, you will be required to send in hard copies of your images. You will be sent further information on this once the shortlist has been revealed.

HOW TO ENTER

  • As well as the images, the team must complete a standard questionnaire on our official form, which can be obtained by calling Lizzi Diggins on 020 3841 7365 or email lizzi@hji.co.uk. The name of the salon/team member must not appear anywhere in the information supplied.
  • Submit six photographs created by you during the past 12 months
  • The following needs to be submitted;
  1. 6 FINAL IMAGES - Each photograph must be 10” deep x 8” wide (portrait). The size includes any borders. Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet. The digital versions of the images are also required with your entry. Please ensure these are sent via WeTransfer in high resolution and low resolution to Lizzi@hji.co.uk
  2. BEFORE IMAGES - Entries must be supplied with a ‘before’ picture of each model taken on the day of the shoot prior to any hair work, make-up or styling. Each photograph should be no larger than 10” deep x 8” wide. Failure to provide these may result in disqualification.
  3. PRE-PRODUCTION - Entries must be supplied with an “after” shot of each model before any post-production/ retouching. Each photograph should be no larger than 10” deep x 8” wide. The organisers and judges reserve the right to question any photographs, which appear to be computer enhanced. Failure to provide these may result in disqualification.


THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOOT

  • No more than four pictures in the collection of six can contain wigs, extensions, hairpieces or stands. You must declare which pictures contain the above by labelling the back of the pictures with the words ‘wig’ or ‘extension/hairpiece/strand’. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  1. You can use a maximum of two wigs in total, in a maximum of two pictures.
  2. A further two pictures can include extensions, hairpieces and/or strands. • No more than two faces may appear in any one photograph.
  • No more than three pictures can be used in two different categories. Exceptions below;
  • Photographs may be black and white or colour and the hair should be aspirational, wearable and reflect current trends.
  • Professional photographers, make-up artists and stylists may be used.
  • Images do not have to be head and shoulders, but they do need to focus on the hair, especially in terms of lighting and pose 

Barber of the Year

This category is open to all barbers that cater for male clients.

  • Tell us about the décor, furniture, services and products you use that make you the best male grooming barbershop in your area.

Business Director of the Year

The driving force behind the business – forward thinkers, entrepreneurs and strategisers.


A joint entry may consist of a maximum of three directors.


Finalists in this category will be required to attend an interview at a venue in Dublin. These will be held on Monday 28th September 2020.

Colour Technician of the Year

WHO CAN ENTER?

  • All qualified hairdressers who work in a commercial environment and have done so for a minimum of three years excluding training may enter this category.
  • Entrants must have a regular client column within the region entered. A regular client column is working in a salon for a minimum of one day per week. This may be checked.
  • Work submitted may be published work.    


If you are shortlisted in this category, you will be required to send in hard copies of your images. You will be sent further information on this once the shortlist has been revealed.

HOW TO ENTER

  • The following needs to be submitted with your online entry;
  1. Make sure to take a video of your shoot. This needs to be a 360 degree video of each model before any work and on completion of the final look. This can be done on a mobile phone.
  2. 6 FINAL IMAGES - 10" x 8" (portrait) full colour, high resolution photographs, of the hair before colouring. The digital versions of the images are also required with your entry. 
  3. BEFORE IMAGES - 10" x 8" (portrait) full colour, high resolution photographs, of the same model's hair after colouring.
  • Please complete our standard questionnaire for each look. This can be downloaded through the entry form or obtained by calling Lizzi Diggins on 020 3841 7365 or email lizzi@hji.co.uk. This can include additional photographs to demonstrate the process, outlining: texture, porosity, previous colour applications and other relevant information.
  • The before and after photographs, together with the A4 technical explanations (as detailed above) for each shot should be uploaded with your entry. Please ensure that you upload each 'before' photograph and 'after' photograph in the same order as the questionnaire so that they can be clearly identified during the judging. 


THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOOT

  • The use of wigs, hairpieces, extensions or strands is strictly forbidden.
  • Make sure to take a video of your shoot. This can be done on a mobile phone.
  • ENTRANTS MUST SUPPLY BEFORE SHOTS OF ALL MODELS.
  • Please ensure that nothing appears in the photographs or technical portfolio that could be used to identify the entrant i.e. branded gowns.

Irish Hairdresser of the Year

WHO CAN ENTER?
